I recently came up with a story and have been jotting down ideas as I usually do but then I happen to think "what if this was a game?". Needless to say I threw out the thought of writting it and have kept adding to what I already had while looking for a company that might listen to my pitch. So far all video game developers I've thought of checking have policies that don't allow them to hear proposals from someone off the street(or at least thats my understanding of said policies). So now I wonder how do game ideas get presented in the first place? I mean not every game could have been thought up by an already established designer right?
